LJ Community Center Jazz Performance

The John Cain Jazz Trio performs melodic jazz in the tradition of Diana Kraal, Ramsey Lewis, Mose Alison, Oscar Petersen, and Errol Garner, all with a shot of New Orleans spice. Each member brings his own, skill, taste, musicality and heart to the music, giving the trio its’ unique sound and style. Since forming in 2011 they’ve been delighting audiences with performances of jazz standards, Bossa Novas, Blues, original songs, international favorites, and unique renditions of retro-pop tunes. They’ve recorded several CDs.
Pianist/Singer J Riley Cain ( AKA John Cain ) was for many years a noted musician and entertainer in the local San Diego music scene. After living in South America for several years where he owned, operated and performed at his own jazz venue, Cain now resides in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. “Living and performing in New Orleans has deepened my connection to the humanity and emotional powers of music. The mystique and aura of New Orleans is a real thing!”
Bassist Grant Clarkson grew up in Los Angeles and began playing bass at ten years old and later earned his Bachelors and Masters at San Diego State University. Ever since, Grant has continuously performed with many of the most well-known musicians in the southern California region specializing in jazz, classical, musical theatre, and mainstream pop & soul. Grant also works with several theater companies, jazz ensembles, various churches and choral groups, as well as composing prolifically, appearing on other artists’ recordings, and teaching.
Drummer Marly Waak are up in Wisconsin the son of a professional musician. Marly himself is a seasoned professional and one of the most in-demand drummers around. Known for his taste and musicality Marly is a multi-stylistic musician, fluent in myriads of musical genres. He currently resides in El Cajon, California.
