Building the Plane While Flying: COVID Research During the Pandemic
Presented by Dr. Sumit Chanda, Director and Professor, Sanford Burnham Presby Medical Discovery Institute
SARS-CoV-2 emerged as a potential pandemic threat in January 2020. Researchers around the world quickly redirected their expertise and resources to help combat an unfolding global health emergency. I will share with you the experiences of the scientists in my lab who were engaged in understanding this new virus and identifying antivirals to treat COVID-19. I will further discuss the likely trajectory of the current pandemic, and highlight strategies to ensure that we are ready for the next.
