R.B. STEVENSON GALLERY is pleased to announce the exhibition “Pacific State” featuring paintings by Los Angeles Artists Jimi Gleason and Chris Trueman. The Opening Reception for the Artists will be on Saturday August 24th from 5 to 8 pm.
Jimi Gleason’s highly emotive and interactive paintings are made with an assertive, luminous palette of pure silver and transparent automotive paint resulting in a reflective and absorbed medium.
The interactive element between the viewer and the painting where color, texture, tones, and subtleties emerge and shift in response to the viewer’s perspective, produces an enigmatic and ethereal effect casting a mood over each moment. His painting’s reflect motion and its transitory nature and hold within them a collection of myriad frozen moments in time.
Chris Trueman draws from a diverse lexicon of mark making including gestural painting, graffiti, color field and with a deftly nuanced color palette. These paintings speak to a merger between organic and synthetic, and in particular a West Coast cultural sensibility which indulges equally in artificial as the natural. Blessed with an incredibly diverse environment, sophisticated visual culture and vibrant urban culture, Trueman capitalizes on the plurality of the region by appropriating visual languages, techniques, styles and physical tensions that amplify a material and physical ambiguity which alludes to a synthesis
of visual language from high art to pop to urban culture.
The exhibition will remain on view thru September 21, 2019.
