The Athenaeum is pleased to present the final concert of the 2019-2020 season of the Barbara & William Karatz Chamber Series. Enjoy chamber music as it was intended–in a warm, intimate setting, where you are treated as a guest in our historic home. All concerts are followed by a private reception with the artists.
Some composers just don’t fit in with their contemporaries. Call them mavericks. Andrew Rosenblum and Maria Sumareva will play two powerful piano sonatas by Ustvolskaya and a mysterious four-hand piano piece by the enigmatic African American composer Julius Eastman.
Andrew Rosenblum was one of the key performers in the three-day Ustvolskaya festival in Chicago, Power in Sound. He will repeat his blistering performance of her Sonata No. 6. His wife, Maria Sumareva, has concertized throughout Eastern Europe and across the United States and has been on the piano faculty of Rowan University since 2018.
See our website for more details and the planned program for the evening.
The price for the concert is: $40 member / $45 nonmember
