This Spring, Artistic Director, Patricia Elmore Costa is excited to produce a series of staged readings at the La Jolla Riford Library. The Duck Variations by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author, David Mamet, will be presented on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 2pm.

The Duck Variations will star Fred Harlow and Byron LaDue who also starred in the critically acclaimed production of The Zoo Story by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Edward Albee at the site-specific, Pioneer Park in Mission Hills and will be directed by Elmore Costa.

Fred is an award-winning actor and is thrilled to be part of this team. Favorite local roles are Roy in The Best Mistake, Valere in La Bete, Jerry in The Zoo Story, and half the citizens in A Tuna Christmas. In his youth, he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC and will never stop learning this crazy craft of acting.

Byron is also an award-winning actor who has graced stages in San Diego for over 40 years. He loved playing Jerry in The Zoo Story. Both Byron and Fred had an undeniable bond and a very strong understanding and connection to the characters of Peter and Jerry in The Zoo Story. “I delighted watching them during rehearsals and every performance. Their performances were nuanced, real, and totally believable,” says Elmore Costa.

The La Jolla Riford Library is located at 7555 Draper Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037. Tickets are available at the door for $10-$15. Cash only.
