As individuals, families, and organizations struggle to deal with Coronavirus bans, cancellations, and social distancing requirements; small businesses and restaurants are facing the economic impact of extraordinary proportion. As a community, La Jolla locals are in a unique situation to support their small business neighbors. Of course, it is critical that people stay informed by credible sources like the County of San Diego and CDC.
La Jolla Village Merchants Association Executive Director, Jodi Rudick encourages La Jollans to patronize local businesses whenever possible while prioritizing the health of yourself and those around you. Here are simple suggestions to help you do your part:
Buy a Gift Card now – Call or go online to purchase a gift card now from your favorite restaurant, retailer, fitness center or salon to use in the future. This immediate cash flow will help businesses bridge the gap during this time of uncertainty.
Think before you Click – Before clicking “Purchase Now” from a behemoth online retailer, ask yourself: Can I buy this same item locally? From hardware and shoes to food and beverages – La Jolla Village Merchants have almost everything you need!
Request Free Delivery – While third party delivery services can be cost-prohibitive, La Jolla Golf Carts is generously offering free pickup and delivery of any items in the Village area of La Jolla to help businesses or residents in need of assistance due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Restrictions may apply due to health and safety restrictions. Please call (858) 401-6307 to learn more.
Delivery Services Reduce Fees – Rather than price gauging, some delivery services are offering price reductions for both restaurants and consumers. Stay on top of GrubHub, Uber Eats, Post Mates, etc.
Postpone rather than Cancel Appointments -If businesses know they can rely on you for future business it helps them budget and plan.
Donate – Events are more than gatherings. They are often primary funding sources for nonprofits including the La Jolla Historical Society, La Jolla Music Society, La Jolla Woman’s Club, Athenaeum Music and Arts Library and community service clubs such as Kiwanis, Rotary and Soroptimist. Donate to a La Jolla charity or cultural arts organizations to help them make up for this enormous loss of revenue.
