Red Modern Lunar New Year Instagram Post

The season of love is coming into full swing this month in La Jolla, While La Jolla is always a great place for romance, February with its (typically) sunny skies, seal pups, nesting cormorants, and early spring flowers is a special time to visit our Jewel by the Sea. Whether you are spending time with a gal, pal or valentine — you won’t want to miss the seasonal spectacles.

The Season of Love is the Season of Seal Pups  There is nothing more romantic than taking a stroll along the La Jolla coastline, especially during Pacific Harbor Seal pupping season where you will be treated to an up close and personal look at some of our newest residents – newborn seal pups and their moms in full cuddle mode. While visitors are not allowed on the beach during popping season, walking the seawalls allows incredible views of adorable seal pups and their mothers. According to the La Jolla Seal Conservancy, seal pupping season officially began on December 15th, 2023. Up to 50 seals are expected to be born at Children’s Pool in La Jolla this season.

Moms and young pups play, swim, surf, and rest together on the protected beach through May 15 at which time humans are again allowed access. No one should miss this rare opportunity to witness nature in its most loving and memorable form.
