Bring your lawn chair and join us at Wisteria Cottage as we listen to writer Gordon Johnson, Cahuilla/Cupeño from the Pala Reservation, as he reads from his works. His words like songs, Johnson has written three books and is a former newspaperman who worked as a feature writer and columnist. Chandler, the popular pulp fiction writer who created the legendary gum-shoe detective Phillip Marlowe, set his last novel, Playback, in La Jolla disguised as a sleepy California beach town named Esmerelda. Playback was published in 1958, just a year before Chandler’s death in 1959. He wrote it while living at 6005 Camino de la Costa, his home in La Jolla starting in 1946. A Musical Evening with Tracy Lee Nelson

Tracy Lee Nelson, Luiseño/Diegueño/Kumeyaay from the La Jolla Reservation, is a blues guitarist, singer, songwriter and artist. Nelson creates hard-hitting lyrics and music about Native blues such as Uncle Sam, Natives No Respect and Commodity Blues. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy his original songs and stories at Wisteria Cottage. Nelson is one of ten artists in the current exhibit Voices from the Rez, which will be open for viewing.
