Flower Power Classes at the Athenaeum

Starting on July 31st and ending on August 4th, The Athenaeum will be having an art class specifically for kids between the ages of seven and nine. Over the course of the week, students will engage with a variety of styles and techniques to create their own world of flowers. In this class, a handful of different artists and cultures will be studied and discussed in the vast ways something as seemingly simple as a flower can be depicted. Each day will be focused on a different artist or style and using findings to create our own versions of flowers following their example. Students will be encouraged to put their own personal, creative twist on their work. For example, one class will be looking at the rich history of flowers and their symbolism in Mexico, from painted frescos to paper flower bouquets. Members and nonmembers are free to register for the event before the class times!
