Rauschenberg to Richter: Mixed Media Inspired by Contemporary Art at the Athenaeum

July 12 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Ritcher Athenaeum

Every Wednesday starting from the week of the 28th of June until the 26th of July from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the Athenaeum will hold a mixed media art class led and taught by Rivian Buetikofer. In this studio class, you will have the opportunity to study extraordinary contemporary masters from all over the world who work in realistic, abstract, and/or non-objective styles in mixed media. Some of the works we will explore include acrylic paint, spray paint, plaster, three methods of photo transfer, and various gels such as pumice gel, crackle paste, and gold leaf. You can even work in three dimensions if you wish!

The focus will be for you to get in touch with YOUR UNIQUE way of creating art through painting and or mixed media. You will gain confidence to create what you always wanted—but perhaps thought you could not. With a demonstration of techniques & media, and through personal critique from the teacher, you will learn how to compose more effectively, as well as learn the steps necessary to edit your own work. Each student will be provided with personal access to images of the artists whose work we will study, along with useful information on techniques and materials.

The first half-hour of each class will include a meditation and mindfulness practice. You will receive a comprehensive materials list after registration. Register today!
