About the book: In August, when San Diego resident Jessica J. Williams tweeted @brenebrown “I want to have a conversation with you about how vulnerability looks different in Black skin”, she never imagined that Brené would agree. She certainly did not think that one tweet would lead to an invitation from Brené and Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement, to contribute an essay to the anthology You Are Your Best Thing. Jessica’s essay centers on what vulnerability and identity negotiation can look like in Black skin as she worked to maintain authenticity while navigating white spaces. Her experience is included among other essayists such as Laverne Cox, Kiese Laymon, Imani Perry, Jason Reynolds, and Austin Channing Brown
