Business owners and community leaders overwhelming support the idea of a weekly “activation event” in the heart of La Jolla’s Business District, according to the analysis of 74 respondents. After months of community conversations and research, La Jolla Village will become home to the WOW Market — part street festival, part makers’ market.
For the past several years LJVMA has used surveys to make gather input from its members and the community at large. “Moving forward with a public market was not without discussion and data collection,” explains LJVMA Executive Director, Jodi Rudick. “It was important to make sure this type of weekly event was something that made sense to our merchants and our neighbors.”
La Jolla has a very successful weekend farmer’s market. Overwhelmingly, however, village residents and businesses support the idea of a weekly street market with live music in the heart of the Business District within walking distance to hotels, shops, restaurants, and galleries. A mid-week market will serve the needs of the over 5000 employees who work, but don’t necessarily live in La Jolla. Further, La Jolla Cove with its marine life and natural beauty continues to be La Jolla’s number one attraction drawing tourists to La Jolla by the millions. The WOW! Market is a perfect magnet to attract more Cove visitors to our main streets for browsing, shopping, and dining.
